Where to Fish
Focus on current seams, shadow lines, bridge structure and areas where bait is swept past the pilings. During strong current, fish the down-current side where predators can hold out of the heaviest flow.
What You Can Catch
Mangrove snapper, jacks, barracuda, sharks and other Keys inshore species can move through these tidal channels. Conditions and seasons change, so watch for bait activity and adjust your presentation.
Best Baits and Rigs
- Live shrimp on a jig head or light bottom rig
- Live pinfish or pilchards around current seams
- Cut bait for snapper and larger predators
- Knocker or Carolina-style rigs when fishing near bottom
- Heavier leader around concrete and sharp structure
Tide Strategy
Moving water is usually the key. Use enough weight to maintain contact without making the presentation unnecessarily heavy. Around slack tide, lighten the rig and work closer to structure.
