Where the Fish Hold

Work bridge pilings, current seams and the down-current side of structure. Watch the surface for bait schools and birds, especially around tide changes.

Target Species

Mangrove snapper, jacks, barracuda, sharks and other Lower Keys inshore fish can use the channel. Larger fish may require heavier leader to survive contact with bridge structure.

Best Rigs

  • Knocker rig with shrimp or cut bait
  • Carolina-style rig with live bait
  • Jig head and live shrimp for lighter current
  • Free-lined live bait when conditions allow
  • Heavier leader when targeting barracuda, sharks or larger fish

Access

Historic FWC information places the fishing bridge at US-1 MM 20 and notes parking. The fishing structure is separate from the active vehicular bridge; always follow current signs and stay in designated areas.
