Where to Fish
Use the designated historic bridge fishing areas and platforms and follow posted trail rules. These channels move a lot of water, so look for eddies, seams and slower pockets immediately behind structure.
Target Species
- Mangrove snapper
- Tarpon
- Jacks
- Barracuda
- Sharks
- Other bait-oriented channel species
Bait and Rigging
Live shrimp and small baitfish are excellent general-purpose baits. For snapper, use a circle hook with fluorocarbon leader and a small sliding or knocker-style sinker. In heavy flow, increase weight gradually until the bait stays in the strike zone.
Current Strategy
Do not fight the current unnecessarily. Present the bait so it sweeps naturally past the bridge structure. The down-current side often creates an easier feeding lane where predators can hold without fighting the full flow.
Tackle Tips
Braid provides sensitivity and helps control fish around structure. Carry several leader strengths because clear water may require lighter fluorocarbon while larger fish and rough bridge structure may demand heavier abrasion resistance.
