Channel 5 Bridge Fishing Guide | Florida Keys

Channel 5 is a productive Middle Keys bridge area where water moves between Florida Bay and the Atlantic side. That current can stack bait around bridge structure and create good opportunities for snapper, tarpon and larger predators.

Fishing Access
Use legal public fishing areas and obey posted signs. The historic bridge/trail corridor in this part of the Keys has long been used for fishing access. Never fish from an active traffic lane or park where prohibited.
Fish to Target
- Mangrove snapper
- Tarpon
- Jacks
- Barracuda
- Sharks
- Seasonal mackerel
Best Baits
Live pilchards, pinfish and shrimp are versatile choices. Cut bait is useful for snapper and larger predators. Match bait size to the fish you are targeting and keep it close to current breaks rather than letting it wash far away from the structure.
Recommended Rig
A knocker rig is a simple option for snapper. Use enough weight to control the bait without pinning it unnaturally to the bottom. For tarpon and larger fish, use heavier leader and tackle appropriate to the fish and current.
When to Fish
Moving water is usually the key. Fish the current seams created by pilings and channel edges. Dawn, dusk and lower-light periods can be productive, but tide and bait movement often matter more than the clock.
